Each summer, Camp Ten Oaks hires skilled staff from diverse backgrounds that reflect our campers and experiences. Our staff members are an integral part of the camp community and ensure that our campers have an unforgettable, safe and fun summer.
On average, the staff at Camp Ten Oaks tend to be in their mid-twenties and choose to work at camp during their vacation time. Our staff to camper ratio is a minimum of 1:3.
At Camp Ten Oaks, we look for staff members who have extensive experience working with children and youth, both in and outside of camp settings, specialized skills to enhance the programming offered at camp, and who are committed to working from social justice principles. We look for staff who are camper-centred, supportive, enthusiastic, nurturing, respectful, dynamic, creative and fun-loving!
Our staff are positive role models who come from diverse backgrounds and have a variety of life experiences. Our staff members tend to be educators, social workers, university students, coaches, youth workers, health care professionals and artists/performers.
The Executive Director is responsible for the overall organization and leadership of camp. At camp, the Director's role is to plan and lead so that things go off without a hitch and, in a more realistic world, to deal with any hitches that do happen. The Director is accountable for ensuring that Camp Ten Oaks meets or exceeds the standards set out by the Ontario Camping Association.
Every member of the staff team at Camp Ten Oaks applies to have this volunteer opportunity. All staff must successfully complete a two-phase interview process, reference checks and a police background check. As well, our staff participate in a mandatory weekend-long orientation and training.
